Event Chairs

We are seeking event chairs to help plan and execute our 2015 adoptathon and street fair, the 3rd Annual Bark (& Meow) Around the Block! This is a fun, family-friendly, community event that'll be enjoyed by many locals. Last year, this event was a smashing success and helped us find homes for 45 animals as well as raised funds benefitting our organization.


We are seeking three positions:

  • Sponsorship Chair: the Sponsorship Chair is well-connected in the Bay Area community and is comfortable soliciting individuals as well as local businesses and entities for sponsorship amounts
  • Marketing Chair: the Marketing Chair is a marketing professional with event-marketing experience, and is comfortable creating and executing marketing plans as well as soliciting local media groups for media sponsors

All event chairs must attend pre-scheduled phone and in-person meetings between now and fall, as well as be available day-of the event.

Canine & Feline Volunteer

Berkeley Humane is recruiting Canine and Feline Volunteers to help care for and engage with the dogs and cats in our care!


Volunteer must attend an orientation. The next orientation will be scheduled shortly.


2-hour shifts available Mondays through Fridays, 7am-7pm.

Lead Storyteller

Are you a writer who loves animals? Berkeley Humane is seeking a Lead Storyteller! Our Lead Storyteller is a dynamic individual who in addition to writing relevant stories, will oversee the success of our blog by coordinating with staff, guiding other Volunteer Storytellers, editing and managing the publishing schedule. Combine your passion for writing and animals and help Berkeley Humane communicate our successes with the community.


In addition to being a great writer who is passionate about animals, our Lead Storyteller must:

1. Be a good editor
2. Be exceptionally organized and punctual
3. Be able to adhere to various guidelines and protocols
4. Work well with people and animals


The Lead Storyteller must be able to dedicate between 1 to 8 hours (variable) per week to this volunteer position, for a period of 6 months.

Berkeley Humane is looking for an experienced SEO specialist to help optimize our website at This is a great opportunity for a volunteer passionate about animal welfare to be involved in a crucial part of our marketing efforts and help connect homeless dogs and cats with loving homes.


1+ year of experience planning, tracking and executing SEO strategies.


This position requires a 3+ month commitment with 2+ hours of availability per week. Although the majority of the work can be performed off-site, the volunteer must be available on average once-per-month for in-person training sessions and check-in meetings.

Berkeley Humane is looking for an experienced web developer to help fine tune our website and improve our users' experiences! This is a great opportunity for someone tech-savvy to use those highly valuable skills to help us increase adoptions and save lives!


Thorough knowledge of HTML, CSS, PHP, etc. with 2+ years hands-on experience building or modifying Content Management Systems including but not limited to Wordpress and Drupal.


This position requires a 3+ month commitment with 2+ hours of availability each week. This volunteer must be available to check-in once a week, and to meet in person on average once-per-month.

Marketing Volunteer

We are seeking a Marketing Volunteer to help with various projects including research, data gathering, organizing marketing collateral, and more.


Organized and comfortable around computers and standard software including the Microsoft suite.


You must be available to work onsite during regular business hours for a minimum of 2 hours a week. 
This position requires a 6 month commitment.
