Nosework - Introduction to Odor

This is the second stage of Nosework in which we introduce a target odor. Using the guidelines of the National Association of Canine Scent Work, we use essential oil of Birch, also recognized as Wintergreen. The dog will learn to identify this scent and locate the highest concentration of it.

Once odor has been introduced, the dog is no longer searching for food. We will also work on procedures for passing the odor recognition test (ORT) and trialing procedures. If you want to do this for fun, once you learn how to introduce odor, you can teach your dog to find a number of different scents.
