About the Class
FIT DOG is for any time you want to have fun with your dog while developing and refining their physical skills, focus and engagement with you. Simple fitness exercises stimulate your dog’s brain and body, helping to eliminate problem behaviors, curb boredom and relieve anxiety and stress. It takes only a little time every day and is a gift that just keeps on giving.
Recommended for a dogs of any age who have enough training to focus on exercises. They should be able to follow your hand gestures with a lure and stay in place briefly when asked. Work at the level and pace of your own dog or puppy. Ability to work off leash is a plus. If working in a group, your dog should be current with all core vaccinations.
You will need some basic equipment that can be improvised or purchased inexpensively. Your class handbook will list some websites where you can purchase equipment if you choose to do so. You can develop equipment week by week in the four week program.
You will need:
- A platform suited to the size of your dog. This can be a piece of furniture, sturdy box, aerobic step platform or even a step stool.
- Mats or pads for footwork. Yoga mats can be cut up, folded and used in many ways in this program. Books are also a versatile choice for foot work and even sofa pillows can be useful.
- Poles or boards you can lay out in a variety of shapes will be employed in the later weeks for the program.
