About the Class
This 4-week class takes you beyond the foundation of basic skills. It increases resilience and response rates of the basic skills and builds habits that make daily life with a dog in your home safe and enjoyable. This class offers more training games than Basic Skills 1 and reduces dependence on rewards to get reliable performance. Each dog and handler will work at their own pace and be encouraged to practice during the week. All sessions are live and in person.
Is your dog ready for Basic 2? Try this self test to see how you do. This is only a self assessment. Please do not submit it to us. https://berkeleyhumane.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Intermediate-test-questions.pdf
Class Requirements
Recommended for dogs that are 6 months or older. Dogs can be home-trained or have completed a basic class at any facility . Dogs should have 80% reliable responses to sit, down, stay and walk for short durations.
Equipment: You will need a flat or martingale collar and/or a harness that attaches in front or back. Be sure you equipment is secure and your dog cannot slip out of it. A 6-foot leash is ideal for training. Please avoid correction collars (choke, prong) and retractable leashes, which are not conducive to good positive training. Every dog registered should have an individual handler
