building for life
The Bay Area Animal Resource Center (BAARC)
Berkeley Humane is building a brighter future for shelter animals in our community. Through our Building for Life—Every Dog, Every Cat Campaign—we plan to build more than a shelter. The new Bay Area Animal Resource Center (BAARC) will be a comprehensive pet resource center that features state-of-the-art veterinary, adoption, training, and education programs for the community.
Berkeley Humane has a long and distinguished history. We attribute our success to living in the present while looking toward the future. With the opening of BAARC we will continue our promise to find loving homes for 100% of the adoptable animals brought through our doors. Phase 1 of this project is expected to break ground in May 2025.
This campaign is currently securing leadership level gifts. For more information about donating and legacy naming opportunities, please contact Jeffrey Zerwekh, Executive Director.

Community Resources
Berkeley Humane is committed to providing free and low-cost essential resources to our community’s dogs, cats, and their guardians, because we believe that doing so will help minimize reluctant surrenders of beloved pets.
