About the Test
This is the test for dogs and their handlers to obtain the American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification. All those who pass will receive a certificate from American Kennel Club, and will be entitled to wear CGC insignia. This is a first step for potential service and therapy dogs.
More information about the CGC test and its requirements here
The test will be held outdoors in a public space and with modifications for social distancing. For these reasons, your dog must be adequately trained to safely pass humans and vehicles (bicycles /skateboard) on a short leash and without disturbing them in any way. To prepare for this, we recommend that you take our 4-week Let’s Just Walk class before taking the test.
Recommended for dogs (mixed or purebred) over 4 months of age who are prepared to take the test. Your dog must perform the requirements without food rewards, reprimands or corrections and be current with all core vaccinations (proof not required).
When you enroll, be sure you read the pre test instructions thoroughly before arriving at the test location The test locations will be sent to you before the test date. You are welcome to practice at those locations when no tests are being held.
