Class Description

This single session webinar class teaches you how to get your dog crazy about going to a mat or platform and staying. This is an important skill, especially for highly excitable dogs. They learn to make good behavioral choices; and accept delayed gratification. It’s really fun to shape this behavior step by step and watch your dog respond by really wanting to be on the mat.

Participation Supplies:

If you want to follow the instruction during the webinar,  you will need your dog on a leash and have  a mat or platform available as well as lots of small  training treats that can be easily tossed.   There are many items you may already have that can serve as a training platform. Your dog should be able to sit, stand and lie down on the platform.  There are also many prefabricated dog training platforms that you can purchase.  Examples of home supplied platforms:

• Step aerobic platform
• Piece of Plywood
• Non slip mat such as a bath mat or yoga mat.
• Dog training platform: Klimb; K9 Play products; Cato Board

This skill has many practical uses including:

Keep out from underfoot in the kitchen by creating a defined space
Keep visitors happy by preventing rushing and mugging them
Teaching solid stays
Home away from home:  When you travel, go to restaurants and other activities you can include your dog who can lie quietly out of the way
