Animal Storytelling & Social Media Internship

At Berkeley Humane, every adoption creates a new beginning. As our Animal Storytelling & Social Media Intern, you’ll play a direct role in helping dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens find loving homes through compelling storytelling and creative digital content.

This is a unique opportunity to combine your passion for marketing with meaningful impact. Through social media, video content, and digital campaigns, you’ll help showcase adoptable animals, highlight their personalities, and inspire our community to take action. Your work will directly contribute to increasing adoptions and changing lives—both animal and human.

What You’ll Do 

  • Collaborate with the Pets & Programs Team and Marketing Manager to create and manage social media campaigns focused on adoptable animals
  • Create engaging short-form video content (Reels, Insta, etc.) that highlights dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens available for adoption
  • Photograph animals and develop compelling visual assets for digital platforms, website listings, and campaigns
  • Write captions and stories that bring each animal’s personality to life and connect with potential adopters
  • Assist in planning and promoting adoption campaigns, events, and themed content initiatives
  • Track performance metrics such as engagement, reach, and adoption interest driven by marketing efforts
  • Coordinate with Foster families to ensure the best photos and videos are captured
  • Help maintain a consistent, compassionate brand voice centered on adoption, rescue, and community impact. 

What You Bring 

  • Background in marketing, communications, media or graphic/digital design (coursework or equivalent experience required) 
  • Proficiency in creative tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, CapCut or similar platforms 
  • Strong photography and/or videography skills (especially with mobile-first content)
  • Social media fluency (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook) and understanding of content trends and best practices
  • Interest in storytelling, content creation, and mission-driven marketing
  • Passion for animal welfare and and helping pets find loving homes

  • Love creating engaging social media content, especially short-form video 
  • Have a natural ability to tell stories and capture personalities through visuals and captions
  • Are excited to use creativity to help animals get adopted
  • Enjoy working in a collaborative, fast-paced, and purpose-driven environment
  • Believe in the power of storytelling to inspire compassion and action 

Requirements 

  • Ability to commit at least 10 hours/week for 3+ months
  • Flexibility to work some on-site hours interacting with animals for content creation 
  • Comfort working around dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens 
  • Physical ability to move, position, and safely interact with animals during content capture
  • No severe allergies to animals
