Berkeley, CA – Attention all pet families. A free pet vaccine and microchip clinic will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, starting at 10 AM at 2700 Ninth Street in Berkeley.
Pet vaccinations are an extremely important part of a pet’s health and wellbeing. A special coalition between Berkeley Humane, Vets in Vans, and Friends of Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) recognizes that families who are facing financial hardship or lack access to regular veterinary care deserve assistance in caring for their pets.
“We are seeing a significant increase in families looking for affordable pet care,” said Dr. Alan Shriro, retired veterinarian and member of the Berkeley Humane Board of Directors. “It is always humbling when so many community agencies come together to provide resources.”
The clinic will offer rabies vaccines to both dogs and cats. Dogs can also receive the DHPP vaccine which protects against Canine Distemper Virus, Canine Hepatitis, Canine Parainfluenza, and Canine Parvovirus. Cats can receive a FVRCP vaccine which protects against Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia. Single dose flea treatment will also be provided at no cost for both cats and dogs.
Both dogs and cats can also receive free pet microchips. A microchip is one of the most important steps every pet family can take to ensure their lost pet has a chance to find their way home.
“Berkeley Humane will be hosting the largest single location pet adoption event in all of California on this same day,” Jeffrey Zerwekh, Berkeley Humane’s Executive Director added. “Our goal is to find new homes for as many shelters pets as possible, and we also thought it was important to help families who already have pets, and this clinic is an important part of that strategy.”
All patients will be seen on a first-come, first served basis, so people are encouraged to arrive early and:
- Pet guardians must be at least 18 years of age.
- Animals are not given full health exams, only vaccinations and preventative care.
- Please bring prior vaccine records.
- Dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in carriers.
- All pets must be at least 6 weeks old.
- This event is not designed to meet the specific needs of feral cat communities.
Underwriting for this event is made possible by the Maddie’s Fund #ThanksToMaddies, Lucy Pet Foundation, Wareham Development, and the Shriro Family.
